Civic Tower

This is how the tower was described in 1925: “It has remained standing, although restored many times at the community’s expense, the bell tower, adapted for public use as a clock with some modifications, but still retaining the original 15th-century imprint.”

The Civic Tower of Monte Grimano Terme is a historic monument located in the heart of the village’s old town, dating back to the 14th century, when it was built as part of a fortified castle by the Montefeltro family. Renovated in the 15th century, the tower has undergone several modifications, including the addition of a dome in the 1600s, which was later rebuilt in the 19th century.

The structure stands 18 meters tall and features a base made of local stone, now visible after a restoration that removed the cement covering it. An 18th-century clock, now out of use, once adorned the tower. The smallest bell still rings to mark the start of school for children. Housing the ancient bells, the tower remains a distinctive symbol of Monte Grimano Terme.
