On August 19, World Photography Day was celebrated. Capturing the moment, freezing an instant to relive it again and again over time—years, even centuries—is the great power of photography. It allows a single second to last forever.
Photography is a true art, not limited to the mechanical act of “taking a photo,” but enriched by light, shadows, and sensations. World Photography Day is celebrated every year on August 19 to remind us of the importance of this innovation, which today may seem commonplace, but at the time was a remarkable achievement.
When Was World Photography Day Established
World Photography Day was established in 2010 by Australian photographer Korske Ara. The date was chosen deliberately: it is the same day in 1839 when physicist François Arago presented the daguerreotype to the Academy of Sciences and Visual Arts in Paris—the first photographic process for developing images.
Developed by the Frenchman Louis Jacques Mandé Daguerre, this process produced a single positive image. It was not reproducible and was made on a silver or silvered copper plate, sensitized in a darkroom and exposed to iodine vapors.
The Most Beautiful Photos from Music Week
In July, the village of Monte Grimano Terme became the natural stage for Music Week. Young musicians from all over Italy practiced and performed along the streets of the town, giving the community seven days of magical melodies and sounds.
Alongside Music Week, a photography contest was held, won by Claudio Giani and Tiziana Selva, with Filippo Farinelli receiving third-place recognition. Here are some of their most beautiful shots…
