Just a stone’s throw from Monte Grimano and set in the stunning backdrop of the Montefeltro hills, the Monte San Lorenzo Observatory is the perfect place for sky enthusiasts. Established by the Rimini Amateur Astronomers Group, its goal is to promote both practical and theoretical astronomy to deepen the appreciation of the spectacular universe. The observatory is located on the southern side of Monte San Lorenzo, at an altitude of 536 meters above sea level. It can be reached via the provincial road SP130, which connects the Conca River valley with that of the Foglia River.
ORIGINS ROOTED IN PASSION
The project was conceived, presented, and developed by the Astronomers Group, who, after a long and painstaking search, managed to find the ideal location to pursue their passion. Construction took two years, with much of the work carried out by the group, particularly the building of the dome, the central part of the structure.
The Monte San Lorenzo Observatory, situated 536 meters above sea level on the southern side of the mountain, is in an area with low light pollution, making it perfect for observing the night sky. In addition to the distinctive dome housing the various telescopes, the observatory also features a meeting room with 40 seats and a video projector for reviewing audiovisual material produced by the observatory. In the outdoor spaces, visitors can set up their own equipment.
DISCOVERING THE UNIVERSE
The goal is to share the beauty of the universe with both young and old. Alone, in a group, or with family, the observatory is the ideal place to have an unforgettable experience. During organized sessions, experts will guide you as you take your first steps into the world of astronomy. You will then begin to observe various constellations and the movement of the celestial sphere, first with the naked eye and then with the aid of telescopes. You will see the sky like never before.
Be enchanted by astrophotography, one of the traditional activities of sky lovers. Astronomical photography allows you to look up at the heavens with fresh eyes: shapes, colors, and lights materialize, giving you an unforgettable view.
